Things To Do
Great Hall of the Clans Museum
The Great Hall of the Clans Museum at the Gaelic College in St. Ann’s is a warm, light-filled space where stories of Gaelic settlers come vividly to life. Here, an engaging interactive museum traces the journey of Highland immigrants from Scotland to Cape Breton, highlighting how their language, music, dance, and craft have shaped local life for more than two centuries. Eight thoughtfully designed displays invite you to linger, listen, and touch, revealing everything from clan traditions to everyday pioneer experience. At the heart of the Hall, the Rev. Norman MacLeod Exhibit follows this charismatic minister around the globe, from his Scottish origins to St. Ann’s and onward to Waipu, New Zealand, illuminating one of the most remarkable migrations in Gaelic history. Cultural demonstrations, often just steps away, add the sounds of fiddle tunes, the rhythm of a milling frolic, and the sight of weaving on the loom, turning the museum into a living celebration of Nova Scotia Gaels.
